Wavefront TV’s Take – Week of 8/3

Wavefront TV’s take on last week:

Think globally, act locally, so the saying goes. With Covid crises, election season, and hurricane season all intersecting at the same time, local news is once again in the news. Access to local news is more important than ever and still a main driver for audiences keeping their cable subscriptions. We believe that local news is likely the next frontier for CTV and access to that local news will likely be a key driver of growth for some of the smaller MVPD and AVOD platforms. Watch for traditional local broadcasters with national footprints (Meredith, Hearst, etc.) to begin partnering up with CTV platforms in a bid to increase reach and revenue, and watch for a subsequent second bump in growth for overall CTV viewership as older audiences (still the main consumers of cable and local news) begin to cut the cord as well.

 Now, on to the news:

Wavefront TV’s take: Local news on CTV platforms is good. Local and regional ad dollars flooding the CTV ecosystem is great.

NBCU stations offer spot on via Freewheel

Wavefront TV’s take: Local SPORTS on CTV is another driver of growth…..but because of Covid and broadcast rights, it’s not always easy to pull off.

Wavefront TV’s take: Be it national, regional, or local, the data all point to one undeniable truth: people watch CTV like they watch TV.
